Canyonlands park is quite large (the size of the Val d'Oise ...). It consists of 3 zones, more or less accessible from Moab, bounded by the rivers through the park: Colorado and Green River. If these three areas meet, their respective inputs are not all in the same place and it is impossible to move from one area to another.
- Island in the sky: the most easily accessible area with a beautiful paved road, it is accessible with any passenger car and is located only 45 minutes drive from Moab. Therefore, this area is also the most visited park.
- The Needles: This area is also accessible with a conventional passenger car but the park entrance is more distant because it takes around the park from the south. 2-hour drive from Moab ...
- The Maze: difficult access area, 4 * 4 mandatory, no services for tourists (no water, no gas, ...). This is one of the most remote and the most difficult to access US. This time it's 7-hour drive from Moab because you have to circumvent both the Colorado and Green River ...
It is advisable however to go there with a full tank and especially your food for the day. Tourists to the service level, the park is not very equipped even in Island in the sky.
Before traveling in Canyonlands - Island in the sky, do not miss a detour to Dead Horse Point State Park near jute, you will not regret it!
Requires limited time, we only visit the most popular area: Island in the Sky. There are already many beautiful things to see and we took an eyeful!
Mesa Arch Trail

Distance: 0.8 km A / R
Duration: 45 min (by counting the time to enjoy the arch and the beautiful scenery!)
I strongly recommend this very easy hike that leads to a beautiful arch overlooking a panorama worthy of the best Westerns! We were happy to see a new archway, as a result of ongoing work during our visit we had not been fully satisfied in Arches National Park.
Upheaval Dome
Situated to the west of the Park, it's impressive crater 5 km diameters of mysterious origins: the collapse of an underground salt cavern or a meteorite impact?
Anyway, the site is worth it
Green River Overlook
We then stop at the panoramic view of the Green River that winds in its canyon (on the road between Mesa Arch and Upheaval Dome):
Grand View Point Trail

Duration: 1 hour
We finished with a flourish visiting Canyonlands by a scenic hike along a cliff until a 360 ° perspective: Grand View Point! For once, the view is not accessible by car (although it already has a nice view from the parking lot :)), but after an easy walk of 1 miles. The path overlooks the canyons and offers beautiful views.
